Guy La Brusciano

Guy La Brusciano, Founder

Guy was born and raised in Philadelphia where he attended Temple University, majoring in Athletic Training. He specializes in injury prevention and rehabilitation. Guy started his extensive training career in the Marine Corps, coaching the men in his unit.

Starting with training the men of his Marine Corps unit, Guy has amassed more than 25 years of experience in both personal and group training, including martial arts, western boxing and numerous other sports. Through the years, Guy has trained thousands of people, which afforded him the proficiency and expertise to develop a unique and effective training approach.

Training Philosophy

Treat the body as a unit and take into account all systems of the body to get the best overall result. Guy’s training motto is: get the body straight then strengthen it. You can’t train someone with functional movements if their body is too dysfunctional to start with.

Nutritional Philosophy

One man’s food can be another man’s poison. Assess each individual’s needs to determine the best nutritional approach to achieve optimum health and performance.

Eric Phillips

Eric Phillips, Head Coach

Eric graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California with a BA degree in Kinesiology, with emphasis on Health and Human Performance. He later attended a year’s worth of applied exercise science classes at Azuza Pacific University.

Eric has experience in a wide range of environments within the health and fitness industry, including recreational, rehabilitative, and collegiate-level settings. In these settings, Eric has provided services to clients of varying needs, from stability training for adults with Parkinson Disease, to strength conditioning for collegiate athletes, to general fitness and nutrition education for adolescents and adults alike. He also has 4 years of experience as a personal trainer, and 2 years experience as a senior CrossFit instructor and programmer.

Training Philosophy

Eric believes that health and fitness are a way of life, and that working hard can also be a fun experience. Eric’s diverse background has helped him develop an inclusive approach to all levels of fitness, making clients feel comfortable while helping them accomplish new athletic achievements. Eric also brings a unique perspective to coaching, having struggled with his weight as a teenager. What Eric enjoys most about CrossFit is observing how it changes people and the empowerment such training provides to those who practice it.

Pamela Matew

Pamela Matew, Coach/Personal Trainer

Hailed from San Antonio, Texas, Pamela has a BA degree in Television and Film Media Arts from the California State University of Los Angeles. She has always been interested in fitness, playing sports her entire life, and has always been athletic and attracted to fitness and health.

What Pamela enjoys the most about CrossFit is how many people she gets to help on a daily basis. Her favorite moment is when her trainees finally see the changes in themselves, their shock and happiness is just priceless. In her words, it brings joy to her soul, making all the early mornings and late nights at the gym so worth it!

Training Philosophy

Pamela’s philosophy is wrapped up with her true specialty of being able to connect with every single person on a deeper level, to really understand and empathize with their fitness journey, helping them achieve so much more than they thought they were capable of.

Steven Mena

Steven Mena, Coach/Personal Trainer

Steven is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  There he completed the Fitness Leadership Program and worked as a Strength and Fitness Trainer. Steven has had an interest in fitness all his life, including playing sports constantly, wrestling in high school, and later, bodybuilding. Ultimately, he found CrossFit. Steven also spent 27 months in Tumbes, Peru serving as a Health Volunteer.  There he conducted a nutrition project, helping families with children improve their diets to meet health and weight goals.

Steven is very passionate about helping people be healthy and fit. He is also a competitive CrossFit Athlete, and is currently training for California Regionals 2017. Steven’s favorite part of the CrossFit experience is listening to the success stories of people, how more confident they currently are, and how they’ve been able to achieve their goals. His specialties include strength and conditioning, as well as helping people with motivation.

Ryan Zaffino

Ryan Zaffino, Coach/Personal Trainer

Hailing from Chicago, Ryan earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Indiana. He began his interest in fitness in 2009, when he was ‘an-out-of-shape-smoker who couldn't keep up with his friends, or pick up a game of soccer.’ A year later he became a body builder, and when walking up a flight of stairs proved to be tiring, Ryan realized fitness might be deeper then show muscle. It was time for a change. A year or so later, following CrossFit training and certification, he started coaching CrossFit.

Ryan’s goal in coaching is the continued fitness success in both himself and others. He thrives when he is able to see people do more than their mind allows, and helping them push through those mental barriers, doing what was previously thought impossible!

David O'Donnell

David O'Donnell, Personal Trainer, Pain Free Exercise Specialist

Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, David graduated with a BA degree from Edith Cowan University in Western Australia. David excelled as a junior athlete, playing top-level rugby and rising as high as 4th in the Australian Surf Club Titles as a surfer.

David completed his original certification as a fitness instructor in 2000 and has since amassed thousands of hours of experience in a range of modalities including Feldenkrais, and Posture and Alignment therapy. His ability to help clients restore health and functional movement, not only in injury rehabilitation but as a preventative measure makes him a highly in-demand trainer, and he takes great pleasure in seeing his clients achieve freedom from the pains and injuries that were holding them back.

Training Philosophy

David believes that in order to achieve ambitious goals, we must first create a proper foundation of alignment and functional movement. Even clients who consider themselves ‘fit’ often carry limitations and injuries that, if ignored, will eventually block the way to further progress. Training the right way, building towards the client’s goals step by step, is what turns hopes and dreams into reality.
